Brandon McFerran Finishes Sixth at Sunset Speedway
Brandon McFerran battled hard on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway to finish sixth in the feature.
McFerran started off the night finishing second and third in his heats.
Come feature time, McFerran started the No. 64 Mustang in the 15th position, moving into ninth by lap two. He then passed Steve Belanger on lap three to move into eighth. On lap three, Billy Melenhorst got alongside McFerran for eighth, though McFerran was able to hold him off and continue to move forward.
By lap four, he was battling for fifth with Gehrig Halliday. McFerran cleared Halliday to find himself in a three-wide battle with Tyler Johnston and Billy Swartzenburg for fifth. McFerran came out on top, moving into third with a pass on Doug Wilman on lap eight. Though McFerran fell back a spot to fourth as Swartzenburg passed him on lap 12. The first caution then flew two laps later for Lance Foster and Belanger coming together. Under caution, the leader Ken Townsend headed down pit road, moving McFerran up to third.
On the restart, McFerran held on to the third spot till he was passed by Billy Melenhorst on lap 18. Paxton then made his way by McFerran on lap 19, bumping McFerran back to fifth.
The second caution then waved for an incident on the front stretch involving Morgan Robson, Kevin Pickford and Benjamin Wolf.
On the restart, McFerran slipped back to sixth after being passed by Miles Tyson. McFerran then battled side-by-side with Eric Yorke on lap 21 for sixth and was able to hold him off to finish sixth for his eighth top 10 of 2013.
