On Saturday night, McFerran would have one of those nights that drivers dream of as he would pull off the hat trick, winning both of his heats and the feature.

McFerran won the first heat just ahead of Warren Paxton after starting fourth. In speaking of the finish in the heat, McFerran said to Spencer Lewis, “It’s all about putting on a show for the fans. I love running side-by-side with Warren.”

In the second heat, McFerran picked up the win after starting fifth.

In the feature, McFerran started the No. 64 Mustang in the 15th position and started to make his way through traffic quickly, moving into sixth on lap eight. On lap 10, race leaders Steve Belanger and Eric Yorke would get tangled up, resulting in the caution and McFerran moving up to the third position.

On the restart, McFerran battled side-by-side with Gehrig Halliday for second all the way till the second caution at lap 13 for Chris Free spinning. McFerran was ahead of Halliday on lap 12 so McFerran would restart the feature in the second position, outside of Ben Melenhorst.

The next two laps would see another two cautions and on two of the three restarts, Melenhorst was able to hold McFerran off. However, on the third restart after the lap 15 caution, Melenhorst would get loose on lap 17. This opened the door for McFerran, who was right behind Melenhorst, as he was able to slip past and take the lead.

McFerran led the rest of the way, holding McFerran and Paxton behind him through lap traffic till the caution flew on lap 24 of 25 for a wreck on the backstretch involving Trevor Hemingway and Kendra Adams. As a result, the race was called and McFerran was officially crowned the race winner.

It was announced a couple weeks ago that McFerran will be running full-time at Sunset Speedway in 2014 in hopes of scoring the championship.

“I’m pumped,” McFerran said earlier in the night. “I wanted to this year, but Dad wanted to run Flamboro. We got knocked around there but we’re having fun here. We’re winning races and haven’t finished outside of the top three too much.”
