Cayden Lapcevich To Dedicate 2013 Season To ‘Papa Joe’
By Spencer Lewis – May 3rd, 2013
GRIMSBY, ON – With his sophomore Super Stock season at Sunset Speedway fast approaching, 13-year old Cayden Lapcevich has planned to dedicate his campaign to the memory of his grandfather Joe.
After a spectacular 2012 effort that saw the Grimsby, ON student become the youngest Rookie of the Year in Sunset history, the third-generation competitor will return to the Innisfil-area 1/3 mile with a new chassis, a new look and a year of experience under his belt.
‘The Prodigy’s brand new McColl Racing Enterprises built chassis will carry his grandfather’s trademark #76, and will honor the family patriarch’s 1965 Speedway Park Late Model championship season with a commemorative paint scheme.
“Dad was such an incredible character and such an integral part of our family and racing effort”, offered Cayden’s father Jeff, a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitor in his own right, “he loved to see the kids race. Cayden really wanted to do something to honor his memory and thought this would be really cool”.
Under his father’s tutelage, with the assistance and coaching of Hall of Famer Stompin’ Tom Walters, Cayden will race the entirety of Sunset’s Super Stock schedule, in search of his first career full-bodied stock car championship.
“My whole family is so excited for the upcoming season”, explained Cayden “I can’t thank everyone that helped with our new car enough. I don’t think anyone was looking forward to seeing our new piece in action as much as my grandpa was, so having his number and paint scheme on it is going to be extra special”
Cayden will roll his Cathcart Trucking, Springers Meats, Troy Cove Marine and Tim Hortons sponsored entry out for the first time on May 4th, when Sunset kicks off their season. Fans can keep up with him through his Cayden Lapcevich Racing Facebook page, the LapcevichRacing.com website or Cayden’s twitter account @CaydenLapcevich. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, interested parties can contact Jeff Lapcevich directly at (905)-971-1510.
