This past Sunday marked Chase Elliott’s first stock car road course and once again, Elliott showcased his talent as he came home with a second place finish after leading 12 laps. It marks his best career ARCA finish, topping his fourth place finish at Salem Speedway.
"It was pretty wild to race such an experienced guy like that," he says. "Our biggest thing was learning. I never expected to have led the last 10 laps, or whatever it was, and to be battling with such an experienced road racer."
The race on Sunday marked Elliott’s third career ARCA start and in each start so far, he has finished in the top 10. However, it comes to no surprise as Elliott has impressed everybody as he has moved up each stage of the racing ladder.
Elliott got his start in Late Models at the early age of 12, scoring four wins, 13 top-five finishes and 24 top 10s in 31 starts in 2009.
The following year, he made 42 starts, winning 13 races and scoring 29 top-fives and 39 top-10s. Elliott holds records in top events of being the youngest winner, including Blizzard Series at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., the Miller Lite Series at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway and the overall Sunoco Gulf Coast championships
At the age of 16, Elliott is already signed to a Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) Driver Development contract and competes full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East with veteran HMS crew chief Lance McGrew a top the pit box. Elliott has been consistent throughout the year as he sits atop the standings, one point ahead of Corey LaJoie. He scored his first victory on May 19th in the East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway.
Just last month on June 19th, he finished second to Kyle Busch in the Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway. Elliott's next planned race in the ARCA Racing Series is Saturday, August 11 at Berlin Raceway near Grand Rapids, Mich.
