For many drivers, the 2011 season brought forth a lot of success for them. David Elliott is one of them as he won the 2011 Grisdale Triple Crown at Flamboro Speedway while finishing second in the season ending point standings.
Elliott came home second in points despite finishing in the top five in all of his races except three, and credits his crew for that.
“My car was prepared when I went to the track; we knew what we had to do,” Elliott said on Friday night at the Inside Track Ontario Short Track Rankings announcement. “Two of my races where I ended up in the top five, I was in the wall while running in the top three. We came in, ripped off the parts and went back out and ran in the top five. So you can’t do it without your crew.”
It weren’t easy for the driver from Waterdown, Ontario, as he faced some adversity trying to win the Grisdale Triple Crown.
“Well, its short track racing,” he said. “You got to bide your time. The first race, I dumped a guy on the third lap and we both went back to the back. But my car just worked really good in hot weather and just bid my time and got back up to second. Through the rest of them, you just got to be at the right place at the right time. “
Beyond the Triple Crown, one of the most meaningful wins of the season was winning Ocktoberfest at Flamboro Speedway.
“was really a whole team effort and I can’t stress that enough,” he said. “Without my crew, I wouldn’t be here. My dad supplied me with a car this year – I got to run against him.”
When the numbers came out for the short track rankings, Elliott was ranked fifth among his fellow peers. However, that doesn’t take anything away from his accomplishments this year as they stand by themselves in their own right.
For 2012, Elliott will be running for the championship at Delaware Speedway on Friday nights, while also running some invitationals at Sunset Speedway and trying to defend the Grisdale Triple Crown at Flamboro Speedway.
