This year, Donny Beatty has made the decision to make his full-time return to Sunset Speedway after running four years at Peterborough Speedway and two years at Kawartha Speedway.

“I thought I would try to see how it goes at Sunset and also, I have purchased Frank Davey’s car and it knows its way around Sunset,” Beatty says. “Also Sunset seems to have the best car count and I love racing with lots of cars.”

In the past six years, Beatty has racked up three championships – two at Peterborough and one at Kawartha.

For Beatty, it’s all about running competitive this season as he notes that Sunset has a strong field of drivers.

“I would love to win at least one feature and finish in the top five in points, but as long as I am having fun, that’s all that matters,” he says.

Beatty got interested in racing through his brother Larry.

“My brother Larry ran dirt tracks all over in the 70’s and 80’s, but mostly at Brighton Speedway and Ed, my nephew and I fell in love with the sport so we started racing at Brighton in 1986 and the rest is history,” he says.

To make this season happen, there’s some people that Beatty would like to thank, including his wife Linda.

“First, I would like to thank my wife Linda who puts up with the long hours of what it takes to race,” he says. “Next, I would like to thank all my sponsors: Wintermer Sod Growers, Lakeside Construction, Mac Tools, Juniors Tire Service, Durham Furnace, Nick Oram Auto Body, Dales Transmissions, SGH Mortgages, Betterbuild Construction and Roofing, Steve Barret,. My crew this year is Chris Palmer, Paul Bogensberger, Josh Gruntz, Stu Robinson Jr., Dan and Gary Thompson. Without the help of Linda, all my sponsors and crew I would not be able to do this sport. Thanks.”
