Laird Township, ON- Fans and drivers of the Laird International Raceway will see the green flag drop on the 2013 season in just over a weeks time, on Thursday, June 6th.

Qualifying is set for 6 p.m., kids bus rides at 7 p.m. and racing to follow at 7:15 p.m.

Along with a FULL SHOW of racing, the young fans will have the opportunity to get on the track in our first POWER WHEELS race of the year.  So mom and dad are encouraged to shine up, and charge the battery of their son or daughter’s power wheels and bring it to the track and let the lil’ racers take to the asphalt oval during intermission.

PLUS, there will also be a Kids Bike Giveaway.

For opening night LIR is offering a $25 “Family of Five” package for main grandstand admission while individual tickets will remain unchanged at $14 for Adults, $12 for Seniors, $6 for Youth (12-18) while Children 11 & Under are just $3.

The official start date is one week later than originally hoped, but with wet and colder conditions that have left the grounds inadequate, combined with the late spring that has driver’s now completing updates for their summer or racing, the decision was made by track management on the weekend.

“We know the anticipation is peaking, and we (management and staff) are equally excited, but our #1 goal is to ensure that the start is the right start.  We want to come out of the gates strong and that means conditions that are ideal for both competitors and fans” stated LIR Director of Race Day Operations Gerry Liscumb Jr.

The upcoming summer of events at the 1/3 mile d-shaped asphalt oval will mark the 15th Anniversary Season at the track.

Since opening back in May of 1999, LIR continues to provide the Twin Sault Area’s & Algoma District with fun, family entertainment with some of the brightest stars of short track racing.

2013 will continue to feature six divisions of cars with Super Late Models, Outlaw Modifieds, LIR Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Xtreme Four and Factory Four Divisions.

“I’m extremely pleased with the response we are having from veteran drivers, new competitors and returning faces that the fans will see at LIR this season.  It’s gearing up to be a very exciting and fun season at the track” continued Liscumb.

A number of Memorial and feature nights are in the works with details to be expected to be released in the coming days.

Laird International Raceway is conveniently located approximately 16 kilometres east of Sault Ste. Marie on Lake George Road in Laird Township.
