As the off-season comes to a close, Kevin Cornelius and the KDR Motorsports team look to hit the track this weekend to begin the 2012 Limited Late Model season at Sunset Speedway.
Coming into the year, the driver of the No. 17 Halton Lee Sand and Gravel, Sandbox Tech Child Care, Hanson Pipe, Alliston’s Transmission, Ed’s Automotive and Fierce Wraps Chevrolet is looking to have another solid season.
“I think we have a good chance to,” Cornelius said back in February. “I don’t wanna stand here and say for sure that we’re going to defend it, but I think with the improvements we’ve made over the winter, we’re going to be as competitive as last year, maybe even more. Looking to get started as soon as we can. Should be a good year.”
The team was at track for practice on April 28th and felt pleased with the laps that they had laid down.
Last season was a successful season for Cornelius as he won six features, including two McColl Shootout Series events, on his way to the 2011 championship. To cap it off, Cornelius was ranked No. 1 in the Inside Track Power Rankings.
“Just proud of the guys, proud of the effort we put in this year,” Cornelius said back in September. “It was a great year all around. Unbelievable really. We set out with our goal of a top five and coming into the last night, it was unbelievable.”
