After finishing second last week, Kevin Cornelius came home with his second feature win of 2012.

In the first heat, Cornelius finished fifth after starting eighth.

In the second heat, the Orangeville, Ontario native found victory lane after starting second.

In the feature, the No. 17 Halton Crushed Stone Lee Sand and Gravel, Hanson Concrete Products, Sandbox Child Care Tech, Alliston Tranmission, Ed’s Automotive Services and Fierce Wraps late model started in the 13th position.

After an incident on lap to involving Ernie Fumerton, Gary Elliott and Keith Maiato, Cornelius would be up to the 10th position. He gained two more positions by the second caution on lap five for debris and would be up to sixth by the third caution on lap eight.

A third of a way through the race on lap 10, Cornelius would be up to third as the caution came out for another incident involving Elliott. A lap after the restart, Cornelius would pass Grosman for second, before the next caution on lap 16 for Frank Davey and Bruce Rankin wrecking.

A lap after the restart, Cornelius would make his way to the lead, with Bentley on his tail. They would battle side-by-side till a caution with two laps to go for Thane Woodside spinning.

“We got some damage on the backstretch there,” Cornelius says. “It was really dragging the front sway bar all night. Actually, when Bentley was jacking us up there, I thought we were done.”

Under the caution, Bentley was given the black flag due to the fender flapping on the right side of his late model.

Cornelius would lead the last two laps in a side-by-side battle with Tom Walters for his second feature win of 2012.

“We had Ed Almand in the pits with us tonight,” Cornelius says. “Our crew chief Grant was away, had to do something with his wife – why would he do that on a Saturday night? So Ed made some significant changes and the car just came to life and went in a direction that I think we’re going to look forward to.”

Cornelius still leads the points, now five points over Walters.
