Kevin Cornelius Comes Home With Solid Top Five Finish at Sunset Speedway
Following an off-weekend, Kevin Cornelius returned to Sunset International Speedway and had another solid points night as he finished fifth in the feature.
In the first heat, the Orangeville, Ontario native came home second after starting fifth.
In the second heat, Cornelius started fifth once again and finished fourth.
In the feature, Cornelius would start the No. 17 Halton Crushed Stone Lee Sand & Gravel, Hanson Concrete Products, Sandbox Tech Child Care, Alliston Transmissions, Ed’s Automotive Services and Fierce Wraps Late Model in the 11th position. By lap five, Cornelius was up to the ninth position.
The first caution would come out for Thane Woodside going for the spin on lap 10. By this point, Cornelius was up to the seventh position.
The second caution would come out on lap 13 when Taylor Holdaway tags Billy Zardo, who collects Bruce Rankin. Cornelius would continue to run seventh at this point.The third caution would come out on lap 16 when Ernie Fumerton had a mechanical failure, finding the wall, collecting Zardo and Scott Beatty in the process. Cornelius still ran seventh, looking for a way to get past Sean Cronan for sixth.
On the restart, Tom Walters would get by Cornelius for seventh, though Cornelius would then make his way around Gary Elliott to get back to seventh. He would make his way past Cronan for sixth in the late stages of the race and make his final pass on Jason Witty on the last lap to finish fifth.
In the point standings, Cornelius continues to lead, now 10 points over Walters.
