After being involved in a wreck on the final lap coming off of turn four, Kevin Cornelius finishes 13th in the feature on May 12th at Sunset International Speedway.

In the first heat of the night, Cornelius started seventh and finished fifth.

In the second heat, the Orangville, Ontario native started fourth and looked strong early, till he pulled off on lap two due to a fuel leak.In the feature, Cornelius started 14th due to winning the feature on the opening night.

By lap five for a caution involving Scott Beatty, Taylor Holdaway and Kyle Mombourquette, Cornelius had moved up to the 11th position. The second caution came out on lap 10 for a spin involving Mombourquette, in which Cornelius had moved up one more spot to 10th.

Though a wreck on the restart involving Dario Capirchio, Ernie Fumerton and Mombourquette would move Cornelius up to seventh. Five laps later under the fourth caution, Cornelius had passed Sean Grosman to move up to sixth.

On lap 20, Cornelius would crack the top five by passing Jason Witty. By the fifth caution at lap 27, Cornelius had made his way up to third behind Mike Bentley and Chris Morrow.

For the final three laps, Morrow and Bentley ran side-by-side battling for the lead to see who would win the race while Cornelius ran behind them.

Coming off of turn four heading to the checkered, contact between the two would put Morrow into the outside frontstretch wall. Cornelius would get right front damage as he caught the back corner of Morrow while trying to around the accident. Bentley would cross the line first ahead of Tiemersma and Holdaway with Cornelius sixth.

On Saturday night, Cornelius was announced the winner as officials decided to go back a lap and use that running order, just removing Morrow and Bentley from the equation as involved cars due to the caution coming out.

However, after the finish was reviewed, Tony Tiemersma got the win while Cornelius was scored 13th as an involved car.

“That was wild,” Cornelius comments. “I was riding behind them and I seen the 51 (Bentley) and the 11 (Morrow) getting together. I knew if I hanged back a little and bided my time, maybe we’d get a second or if they both take each other out, maybe a first. But man, I wasn’t expecting that. The 51, he drove it in way too deep and just took the 11 out and then we got a piece of the 11 going by.“
