After a wreck on the last lap last week, Kevin Cornelius and KDR Motorsports bounced back this week by finishing second in the feature to take over the points lead.
In the first heat, the Orangeville, Ontario native came home second after starting at the back.
In the second heat, Cornelius was able to pick up his second heat win of 2012.
In the feature, Cornelius would start the No. 17 Halton Crushed Stone Lee Sand & Gravel, Hanson Concrete Products, Sandbox Tech Child Care, Alliston Transmissions, Ed’s Automotive Services and Fierce Wraps Late Model in the 10th position.
By the second caution on lap two for Kyle Mombourquette spinning Bruce Rankin, Cornelius would already be up to seventh, picking up one spot at a time.
The third caution would come on lap six for Dario Capirchio having a flat tire and Cornelius would be up to fifth.
By lap seven, he would make his way up to second and would remain there for the rest of the night, unable to catch Mike Bentley.
With another solid finish, Cornelius now leads Tom Walters by two points.
KDR Motorsports would like to thank the fans for their support and welcomes you to Sunset Speedway next weekend, May 26 and 27, as the team will be in action both days. On Saturday, it marks the fourth night of regular night racing this season. On Sunday, it marks the first event for the McColl Pro Series, where Cornelius will be out there against the best Open Late Model and Limited Late Model drivers in Ontario.
