We arrived in plenty of time to make a few sets of hot laps. I was able to watch Lauren drive her go-cart in the morning and she ran well against her 20 competitors.

We ran double heats again. In the first heat we started last and ran hard in the ten lap qualifier, but could not make much ground. It was near the end of the race that we passed two cars giving us 7th at the line.

For the second heat race we started outside pole. Our car was good in the first heat and so we hoped we would be competitive in this outing.

We got the lead on lap one.  There was one caution early on, and we restarted on the inside. We were able to pull away on the start and battle for the lead.

The checker flag waved for us for the 3rd in 2012 and we were very happy again to be in victory circle.  Our crew and some fans made it out for their pictures.

The announcer and fans at Sunset Speedway always give us a huge welcome especially if we can take a checker flag.

We ran hard in our feature race (no pictures) and finished 9th, though not the finish we wanted, we were in the hunt, giving us our best night so far at Sunset Speedway.  After the races some of Matt’s family came in to the pits, Phil and Aileen from Scotland.  They loved the races and wanted to get a closer look of our car. They all received autograph cards and then I coaxed Phil to get in the car. He is much bigger than me and it was a shoe horn moment but he made it in.

Our next race is Wednesday July 11th at Sunset Speedway the 2nd round of the MRE Pro Late Model 75 lap special.  The Quaker State team will get to run against the Pennzoil race team, allowing me to compete with David for the 2nd time this season.  David is having a great season finishing 3rd in the 2nd round of the Grisdale Triple Crown.  He is the defending Champion of that series and has a good lead after the first two races.
