First Feature Win Ever At Delaware Speedway
July 26th Delaware Speedway
What a night of celebration and history for our team. We were invited to race the Outlaw Pro 4 Modified of Dave Hodgkinson back in March and agreed to a two race event. These very fast Modifieds race weekly, throughout the U.S. and Ontario. We arrived early but on our first effort to practice the oil breather came off after one lap. We couldn’t look for it until after all practice was done. No one had a spare so our practice session was reduced to one slow lap.
Apparently this little Modified only needed one lap because it was a rocket in both races I competed in. We won both our 8 lap heat race and the 25 lap feature, beating the top two Pro 4 runners by a car length at the line. It was an exciting finish with the top three running very tight.
This win was our first in 2013, breaking a long slump, but nothing compared to our feature win that was historic in so many ways.
The feature win on Friday night was incredibly welcomed by our team. We have been struggling trying to get our Late Model program in the winner’s circle and we’re surprised to find this history making night would be in a car we had never raced before. Here are some interesting high lights on this win.
- It was our first feature win ever, at Delaware Speedway in 45 years.
- It was our first feature win in five years, dating back to 2008.
- This feature win was 5 years to the day of our last win on July 26th 2008
- This was our 36th career feature win.
Special thanks to Matt, Don and Cheryl for coming with us to Delaware, and to the Hodgkinson family for allowing us to race their awesome car, and having our number and Quaker State put on the car. It was a great night.
