Quaker State Teams Have Great Race Day Lauren Gets Us Off To A Good Start In The Go Cart
August 24th Race #22
It was a great day of racing for our three Quaker State teams. Lauren got it going by having her best finish of the season, picking up a 7th and 4th in her heat races, and taking 6th in the feature.
Laruen was racing in a big field of Go Carts but raced hard. She is now in 10th place in the points.
Gehrig’s New Engine Shows Power
It was a busy week for the Mini Stock team as they needed to find and install a good engine after blowing up the good engine that was in the car. Gehrig was running 12th on the 17th of August when his engine let go. Through the generosity of one of our previous sponsors, Mike Van Slingerland, an engine was provided and installed by Friday night. We all pitched in to get it ready and the results were awesome
Being a new engine, we were not sure how it would perform. However the speed and performance were amazing, resulting in top five finishes in every race.
The car ran very well after the first set of hot laps. Timing was set and Gehrig raced hard finishing 4th and 2nd in his heat races and then taking 4th in the 25 lap feature.
The feature race provided some wild moments like this. Gehrig was mid pack and worked his way to 4th passing cars high and low en route to another strong top 5 feature finish. He is still 4th in points and holds on to that position with a comfortable lead over 5th.

Late Model Team Has Strong Outing Closing In On Top 10
2013 has been a very successful season off the track promoting our sponsors, sport and home track. However, it’s been one of our toughest on the track. We’ve had some bright moments, but not quite where we want to be. Our car is very close now, and we are pressing on to claim a top 10 in the point standings at Sunset Speedway. This past weekend we made some great strides to reach our goal.
In our first heat race we finished 2nd, our best qualifier finish of the season.
Our 2nd heat was tougher starting 7th but we finished 5th to make some valuable points.
The feature race was tough, only one caution in the 30 lap main event. Our car was fast but was loose when I got on the gas. The car would fish-tail coming off the corner, not severe, but bad enough to slow us down because of waiting to get on the gas. I got on the outside where my turns were not as hard and the car was almost perfect, but we need to be good on the inside in order to make advances through the pack.
Running on the outside paid off as we were able to stay with many of the cars. The car still needs to be adjusted to be able to run at the bottom of the track. We were happy with our 10th place finish in the 22 car field and are hoping for a better run this coming Saturday. We are now only 12 points out of tenth place in the point standings. We were 15th in the points just a month ago but have made great strides moving up in the standings, our focus is a top ten.

Our contest to guess when and where our 2500th race will end this week end as long as there is no rain. We have been updating the Sunset fans the past 6 weeks with race updates by the announcer Spencer Lewis and by our sign on the grand stand just at the start finish line. We hope our friends, sponsors and fans can be at Sunset Speedway for this milestone for our team.
