Battling the everchanging weather, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the No. 60 Mopar Parts/Mobile 1/Exide Batteries team was able to make the right adjustments to come home with a solid top 10 finish in the ICAR Grand Prix.
The battle started on Saturday when Beauchamp Jr. only laid down a few laps due to the heavy rains coming down on the track. The rain would also rain out qualifying, handing Beauchamp Jr. a fifth place starting position for the race on Sunday.
Though when it came to race day, the track was dry so the crew had to make crucial adjustments, including changing the shocks. Early the race, the adjustments didn't pan out as the No. 60 Dodge was a little too tight for the driver as he slipped outside the top 10.
“The changes we made to the car were in the right direction, we just went too far," Beauchamp said after the race. ”In the second half of the race, I was able to muscle the car a little better and managed to run better lap times."
The crew worked on the car and a green-white-checkered that was filled with cars colliding, Beauchamp was able to escape all the madness to come up with a ninth place finish.
“We caught a little break at the end and we’ll take the top ten finish” he says.
After running back-to-back road courses, the Canadian Tire Series will shift gears with the first oval race of 2012 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park oval track in Bowmanville, Ontario on June 16th.
“I’m looking forward to getting to the first oval race in a couple of weeks," he says.
