This year at the Canadian Motorsports Expo, Sean Cronan and Cronan Motorsports unveiled their new paint scheme for 2012 – silver and purple. This is a result of two new sponsors for 2012 – Supercuts Barrie/Wasaga and Paul’s Auto Body.
“Between them, we’ve come up with this flashy paint scheme – silver and some florescent colors on the car,” Cronan says. “It’s a new look for us; we got a new image for this year that we’re trying to portray. I’m very optimistic that this is something that not a lot of people have seen before.”
Beyond the new paint scheme with Supercuts, there is a promotion that they are doing this year. if Cronan wins a feature at Sunset, fans who have proof of grandstand admission can go to either the Supercuts Barrie location or Wasaga Beach location and get a free haircut.
“That’s the way that we’re trying to give back to the fans of the speedway,” Cronan says.
The off-season has been busy for the Cronan Motorsports team as beyond signing new sponsors Supercuts and Paul’s Auto Body, they have also picked up support from Shirley’s Bayside Grille and Septech Septic Services. They’ve also resigned sponsors Lockeroom Sports Bar and Grill, Women in Stride, Sturdy Power Lines, Spira Fire Protection, Northern Safety, Gunk Canada, Bourque Transmission and Sophie’s Place.
Last season was a solid season for the Bradford, Ontario native as he won the McColl Racing Shootout Series, won the 75-Lap Limited Late Model Velocity 250 and finished fourth in Sunset Speedway’s Limitd Late Model standings.
“It was a good turnaround for us,” he says. “There were people doubting us getting a new car, a lot wondering what was going to transpire. I just really wanted to not fall on my face, so to speak. I wanted to come out, have a reasonably good program. I believe we met all our goals last year. We said we wanted to finish top five in points – we did such things. We were pretty consistent; I was happy with that. I like the fact that we didn’t have a lot of rough stuff going on, we stayed out of trouble; we tried to avoid controversy. I think, all in all, it was a pretty good year.”
Cronan got started in racing by working on Steve Tiemersma’s crew at the track.
“I was a kid with dreams of getting involved in racing,” Cronan says. “I never had the opportunity to get involved when I was younger, due to finances and stuff. I crewed for Steve Tiemersma for when he used to run ALSTAR.”
When it came to the right time, Cronan purchased Tiemersma’s car and got involved himself behind the wheel.
“I had a steep learning curve,” Cronan says. “Had some fun, had some growing pains, and now I’m starting to find my place where I think my competitors know who I am and it’s a lot of fun to go to the track. I’m very fortunate to be in the situation that I am in. I don’t ever take it for granted, but I’m so proud to race.”
Beyond the racing on track, Cronan and team have been involved giving back to charity.
On July 29th, Cronan Motorsports is holding their Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Horseshoe Valley. All proceeds from the event will go to the Season’s Centre for Grieving Children. Tickets for the event are $100, which include a round of golf, dinner and more. There will also be an auction that is held to raise money. Lastly, Cronan Motorsports plans to have a night at the track dedicated to the kids, as they did last year.
“Season’s Centre is an excellent charity that we’re very proud to support,” Cronan says.
The Season’s Centre for Grieving Children is about giving every child the opportunity to grieve in a supportive environment. They provide peer-to-peer support for children, teens and their families when grieving a loved one.
Beyond the golf tournament, Cronan Motorsports will also be taking part in other events this season. On February 26th, they will host their Charity Daytona 500 party at the Lockeroom Sports Bar and Grill.
Other events include…..
- April 28th: Season’s Centre Tender Hearts Charity Gala and Auction at the Barrie Golf and Country Club
- June 14th: Season’s Centre Charity Golf Tournament at Settlers Ghost
- June 16th: Supercuts Mapleton Show, with Rock 95 live on location – doing haircuts for charity
- July 7th: Season’s Centre Show and Shine Charity Car Wash at Bayfield Mall
- November 18th: Annual Cronan Motorsports Charity Year End NASCAR Wrap-Up Party at the Lockeroom Sports Bar and Grill
With all the events planned for 2012, Cronan Motorsports is hoping to raise at least $5,000 for the Season’s Centre.
