With four cars to prepare for another full season of racing, it was a long and very busy winter for the Spira Team with no shortage of work to get ready for the 2013 season. Ken Spira is in the process of building a new shop which will be completed late in 2013, which is larger and better equipped to handle the stress of housing a four-car team.
The #86 of Billy Schwartzenburg has been repainted with its signature lime green color, and despite winning the series championship at Flamboro Speedway Billy and Ken will be traveling throughout Ontario to run at different tracks, alleviating the constant pressure of contending for points and shifting the focus to having fun-as their main objective. As a
result of his very successful 2012 season, Billy was able to present a cheque for $4,200.00 to the Guelph Wish Fund For Children shortly after the season ended.
The #44 of Scott Simmons worked hard throughout the off-season to repair the damage from a pretty serious wreck towards the end of 2012. With an all white car for the new season, a change from the black-and-white design sported throughout last year's campaign, the car and driver are eager to hit the track in 2013.
The #22 of Wade Watson has decided to hand over the driving duties to his 11 year old son Jake for the 2013 season. Wade and Jake have decided to keep the orange and black paint scheme from 2012, however have chosen to run a newer-style mustang nose.
The #81 of Samantha Shaw had her best season yet in 2012, and along with her father, she has decided to run a newer-style mustang nose, while keeping the bright yellow and blue paint scheme and also plans to attend more speedways throughout Ontario in effort to gain experience, have fun and provide more exposure for our sponsors.
All four cars have been detailed and pictures were taken for the 2013 hero cards. The cars have also been set-up and are ready for the first practice session at Flamboro Speedway on April 20th - weather permitting. Spira Racing has committed to bring all the cars to an open house at Protreadz-Tirecraft on May 11th. The team will also continue to race in support of the local charity, Guelph Wish Fund for Children in 2013 with the hopes of exceeding last years donation.
In sponsor news, Spira Racing would like to welcome back Apollo Valves, Artik Ice, Cambridge Source for Sports, Chetty's Hot Sauce, Cloverleaf Farms, Conestoga Roofing and Waterproofing, Dave Franks Photography, Dominion Sure Seal, Eastside Auto Service, Erb & Erb Insurance, Fleet Image, Guelph Wish Fund for Children, Gunk, Klotz Auto Repair and Machine Shop, Lucas Oil Products, Mackay Enterprises, Nuco, Plasti-Kote, Process Group, ProTreadz-Tirecraft, R&R Cycle, Rockwood Roof Trusses and Components, Sloot Construction, Snap-On Tools, Spira Fire Protection, Wix Filters, and Wolseley for the 2013 campaign.
