With last weeks event cancelled due to rain, the Spira Race Team had plenty of time to get their hero cards completed for the upcoming autograph sessions. Jeff from Infinite Image and the team only had to finish the layouts since the pictures were done before the first race of the season. Once again this year, the team went with a common back that depicts the entire team, the crew and sponsors on all four cars.

The Spira - Chetty’s Hot Sauce team woke to a steady rain in the morning, however it did look like it may clear after the gates were scheduled to open at 3:00pm. The main event of the evening was the Grisdale Triple Crown Series event that was centred around a 75 lap race for the Late Model Class. The Grisdale event was broadcast live across Canada and the United States by Race Time Radio on SiriusXM which was presented by team sponsors, Spira Fire Protection and

Chetty’s Hot Sauce. Patrick Chetty and family made the trip from Keswick Ontario, where they produce the hot sauce from all natural ingredients grown on Patrick’s farm back in the Carribean where Patrick was born and raised. Chetty’s has been a long time sponsor of Spira Racing and the entire team would like to thank him and his family for their continued support. The rain dwindled shortly after the team arrived and the sun made short work of drying the track as the mini-stocks made their way out for the first of two practice sessions. All four cars had a push condition in the centre of the corner as well as Scott was having issues with his motor running sluggish off the corners. Adjustments were made on all cars during both sessions as well as the timing adjusted in Scotts motor.

Scott and Wade were in the first heat, with Scott starting 5th and Wade 7th. Scott held off the #5 throughout the second half of the race to finish 5th, however Wade lost two positions to finish 8th with an ill handling car. After the race, it was found that the right rear spring in Wades car slid out of its pocket when the crew had the car jacked up to adjust the sway bar. Samantha and Billy were in the second heat where Sam started 2nd and Billy 8th. Sam ran strong on the first lap with some good side by side racing, however after two laps, fell back into 2nd as Billy moved up two positions into 6th.

Samantha held off the #37 throughout the race to finish a strong 2nd in her Lucas Oil Mustang and Billy worked his way through traffic to finish 4th.

The crew made adjustments to Scotty’s car to help a loose condition and he reported that his motor was much better with the timing adjustment made. Samantha was happy with her cars handling, Wade required some adjustment to loosen up his car and multiple changes were made to Billy’s Chetty’s Hot Sauce Mustang to take a big swing at curing the push in the centre of the corners. Scott lined up his Conestoga Roofing Mustang on the outside pole in 2nd while Samantha was not too far back in 8th, Billy in 11th and Wade 15th. Scott led the first lap and then was overtaken as the caution came out for the #37 who hit the turn three wall on the 2nd lap. Scott restarted in 3rd, Samantha was up two spots in 5th, Billy was up one in 10th as was Wade in 14th. Three of the Spira - Woseley cars were grouped together on lap 4 as they battled for 5th, 6th and 7th position. Billy moved by Samantha for 5th on the 7th lap and then Sam fell back to 8th with Scott and Wade in 14th and 15th. Billy continued his charge forward as he fought to achieve his goal of putting the Chetty’s Hot Sauce Mustang into victory lane with Patrick Chetty and Family in attendance. The #86 was into 3rd on lap nine and then into 2nd on lap 13 where Billy now had to make up a big gap to catch the leader. After four hard laps of pushing the #86 that was handling great in the corners, Billy caught the leader and took the position and the lead. Billy continued to pull away throughout the remaining caution free laps to put the Chetty’s #86 into victory lane with his second win of the season. Samantha had a great run and brought the #81 Lucas Oil Mustang home 7th, while Scott and Wade battled for position further back in the field with Scott keeping Wade behind him to finish 14th and Wade 15th.
