The Spira-Tirecraft Race Team arrived at Flamboro Speedway under sunny skies to start off their 2013 campaign. The pit gates opened early to allow teams additional practice time, however Samantha missed the first two practice sessions with a cracked fuel line on the #81, Sam only had time for five laps of practice prior to the heat races and was not sure how the car was going to handle, Billy and Scotty had plenty of time to make the minor adjustments required to get their cars comfortable. Eleven year old Jake received plenty of seat time in the #22 and only minor adjustments were required to tighten up the car. Jake and his sister were at the track early in the morning for go-kart practice and despite being very tired, Jake was doing an excellent job handling the much bigger machine.

After the drivers meeting where flyers were handed out for the Protreadz-Tirecraft open house on May 11th, and after Jake had a much needed nap, the cars lined up for their heat races. Billy started 7th and Scotty 8th in the first heat where Billy finished 3rd, followed by Scott in 4th. Jake started 7th as the only Spira car in the 2nd heat and finished 4th in the #22 Process Group Mustang. Samantha was also the lone Spira car in the 3rd heat where she started 3rd and finished 5th.

The cars lined up for the 25 lap feature in a bizarre order set by the track, with Samantha 3rd, Jake was to start 8th, however he and his dad decided to start at the back, Scott 6th and Billy 9th in the 24 car field. Sam moved up to 2nd on the first lap, followed by Scott in 4th, Billy in 7th and Jake remaining at the back as the caution came out early for cars getting together in turn four. During the first five laps, Billy moved the #86 Artik Ice machine up to 3rd as Samantha slid back to 5th, Scotty 9th in the #44 Klotz Auto Repair Mustang and Jake in 21st. On lap 15, Billy was in a battle for the lead with the #71, however he was also trying to hold off the #31 who was on his bumper. Samantha and Scott were running 9th and 10th respectively and Jake had moved up to 18th. With just four laps remaining and just after the #31 got by Billy to put him into 3rd, Jake spun the #22 while exiting turn four to bring out the caution. Jake was sent to the back for the four lap shoot-out to the end that had the #71, #31 and Billy in the #86 battling hard for the win. The #71 held onto the lead through the final laps, followed by the #31 and Billy in 3rd. Samantha finished 9th followed by Scott in 10th and young Jake worked his way up to finish 17th.

Next up for the Spira Team is the second race at Flamboro Speedway on May 4th for Samantha, Jake and Scott, however Billy will be heading North to Sunset Speedway for their opening night of racing in the #86.
