Samantha’s #81 required the most work throughout the week to repair damage caused by the #37 who spun on the track and made contact with the Lucas Oil Ford. The other cars went through regular maintenance and organized everything required to switch them over to conform to the Sunset rules package and set‐up that is substantially different than those at Flamboro Speedway.

Sunshine turned to cloud cover as the team arrived at Flamboro Speedway, however rain was not in the forecast until the morning. All four cars had minor issues with their handling during practice and they were fixed with a combination of spring rubbers, spring changes, tire pressures and sway bar adjustments. After only two practice sessions, the track took an extended break and that allowed the team some time to fix Wades truck. The alternator gave up on the way to the track and after limping the second half of the trip with a battery change from the trailer, Wades wife brought a replacement alternator to the track. The alternator itself was an easy task but it was a little more work to change the aluminum cooling line that Wade put a hole in with a hot wire from the battery that also melted and had to be replaced with what could be scrounged in material from the track.

Jake was the only Wix Filters sponsored car in the first of two heat races and after starting on the pole, had the #12 and #26 get by him on the first lap, putting him 3rd where he maintained the position for the finish. Samantha started 3rd, Scott 4th and Billy 8th in the second heat. Scott fell back quickly to 8th, Billy moved up to 6th and Sam held her own. At the half way mark, Sam who was running 5th, got together with the #15 and both spun on the track, bringing out the caution. Billy restarted 5th, Scotty 6th and Sam was at the back with the #15. Billy moved into 3rd on the final laps, where he finished, Sam moved by Scott to finish 6th and Scott brought the #44 Cambridge Source for Sports machine home in 8th.

Jake started on the pole for the 25 lap feature consisting of 19 cars with Samantha 6th, Billy 8th and Scott back in 15th. The #12 and #26 once again got by Jake on the first lap and then Billy took over 3rd from the rookie driver as the veteran was quickly moving to the front of the field to take over the lead on lap four. Caution arrived on the 5th lap for a car stopping on the track and Billy would lead the field to the green on the restart with Scott 6th, Samantha 8th and Jake had fallen back to 15th. As Billy maintained the lead for the next five laps, Scott spun his car through the infield to avoid contact with the #26 and the caution returned. Billy was now beside the #31 of Dave Bailey, who always races hard
with Billy and with over ten laps of side by side racing, the two veterans put on a show for the crowd as they battled hard with Billy taking over the lead on the final few laps to get the win. Samantha did a great job working her way back up through traffic from the back of the field to get a 4th place finish, Scott had his hands full with the traffic at the back of the field and finished 11th with Jake finishing two positions behind him in 13th.

Next up for the Spira Team will be the second race of their double header weekend with a trip north to Sunset Speedway on Sunday the 16th for a 35 lap invitational event. Pit gates open at 10:00am, the grandstand gates at 12:30pm and racing begins at 3:00pm.
