The motor in Samantha’s #81 was repaired throughout the week and she was good to go to Sunset Speedway for a regular points night of racing with Billy in the #86. Scott and Jake had scheduled the weekend off from racing as Flamboro was not running a points night, however Jake would run his go‐kart in the morning at the speedway with his sister Jessica. Scott and
his brother Steven, along with their dad, used the scheduled weekend off to do some major wiring and reorganization in the trailer that has been on their to‐do list for some time now.

Plenty of sunshine was forecast throughout the day as the #81 and #86 teams headed north to Sunset Speedway. Minor adjustments were all that were required on both cars as they had competed at the speedway the previous week. Billy finished 2nd to a Sauble Speedway car in the Home‐Home Series between the two tracks just seven days ago, and although Samantha did not race in the feature last weekend, she did run the practice sessions and heat race that allowed the team to set up the car for the high banked speedway.

Samantha would start 8th in the first heat out of 12 cars and moved up to 6th on the fist lap until her momentum was stopped by a row of cars running three wide in front of her. As the middle car moved forward, Sam picked the same lane to follow but the lane closed and after making contact, spun out and brought out the caution, sending her to the back of the field on lap three. On the restart, Samantha pulled into the infield with what turned out to be a broken throttle linkage that would require her to be pushed to the pits at the conclusion of the race. Billy started on the pole of the second heat race and after running side by side for two laps with the #26, moved out front where he ran until the caution for the #78 who spun in turn one. Billy ran two more side by side laps with the #26 before he regained the lead for the final laps to get the win.

With the throttle linkage repaired, Sam lined up the Sloot Construction Ford to start 4th in her second heat race where she was quick to get to the front of the pack and lead the first lap before the #64 of Brandon McFerran took over on the second lap. Sam raced side by side with the #33 who is the points leader at the track for four laps before the caution came out for the #78 who spun on her own. The #64 regained the lead on the restart, however was spun by the #33 to bring out the caution, sending both to the back with Samantha inheriting the lead. Sam finished the race out front for the win, followed by the #64 who came through traffic with a very fast car to finish second. Billy started 12th in his second heat and quickly made his way to 9th as the caution arrived after the first lap. Billy was on the move as the field restarted and was up to 4th on the 2nd lap and then 3rd on the 3rd. Passing the #37 on the 7th lap put Billy 2nd and then with two laps remaining, passed the #51 to take his second heat win of the night.

Billy lined up 14th and Sam 17th for the 25 lap feature and it didn’t take long for the two well handling Lucas Oil cars to move forward. Billy was in 3rd and Sam 10th as they completed the 5th lap and the caution came out for the leader who was in the inside wall to put Billy 2nd and Sam 9th. The #64 was on Billy’s tail as they took the green flag with the #07 out front and then the caution returned on lap seven putting Billy side by side with the #64 for the restart with Samantha up to 7th. Billy and the #64 were the centre of attention as they ran the next 5 laps side by side until the #64 edged into the lead on lap 12. Sam moved into 6th with 10 laps remaining as Billy continued his chase on the #64 who was running flawlessly through lapped traffic. Samantha maintained 6th as the #64 got caught up in slower traffic allowing Billy to get within a car length with five to go, however the #64 had a very strong car and finished with the win, giving Billy 2nd for his second race in a row at the speedway and Sam brought her car home with a solid 6th place finish.

Next up for the Spira ‐ Rockwood Roof Trusses and Components Team is a trip to Flamboro Speedway for the #22, #44 and #81 for a regular points night of racing on Saturday July 27th, however the #86 will be headed to Sauble Speedway, where the track is having an autograph session for the many fans at the popular beach area track. Billy’s trip to Sauble is also to
set up the car and prepare for the Dash for Cash event to be held on the following Wednesday. Pit gates open at 4:00pm, the grandstand gates at 5:00pm, qualifying at 6:30pm and racing begins at 8:00pm at Flamboro Speedway and pit gates open at 3:00pm, the grandstand gates at 5:00pm, qualifying at 6:00pm and racing begins at 7:00pm at Sauble Speedway.
