After finishing a solid fourth in points last year, Taylor Holdaway is coming back to Sunset Speedway to go after the championship.
“With the guys coming back and the new guys this year, it’s going to be really tough,” he said. “With the field so close, if you’re a tenth off, you’re back running in 15th so we got to keep working at ways to get better.”
The Orillia, Ontario native experienced an up and down year, having some solid finishes including a memorable feature victory against Mike Bentley, while having some not so good moments. In working at having a better 2013, Holdaway says they need to stick to their game plan.
“We were trying stuff on Saturdays and then chasing it the rest of the day,” he said.
The plan for 2013 is to use the lessons learned in past seasons to make the coming season the best yet. Beyond looking at regular Saturday night features, Holdaway says he picked up lessons when it came to the long distance races.
“I’ve learned it’s better to conserve, instead of running a couple fast laps,” he said. “It’s all about saving your equipment to the end.”
On top of the racing, Holdaway is planning to raise money once again for breast cancer, having raised over $3000 the past two years. Holdaway started the fundraiser last year as he wanted to do something different.
"Same paint scheme every year, gets kind of boring," he says. "I know some cars in the (United) States tried to do something like me – like they did their numbers pink or something. I wanted to go a little bit more wild than them and paint the car pink."
