Last year marked Wendy Adam’s first year at Sunset Speedway and for a rookie, she had a solid season, finishing 13th in points.
“Last year was a big learning curve, bringing a new car and learning the track and working with set-up,” Adams said. “Overall, it was a good learning experience and a lot of fun.”
One of the big shockers of the season was when she came back after a hard crash in turn three on August 18th. Contact on the backstretch would send Adams into the outside wall, completely destroying the front end of her mustang. Many people credit the seat and safety innovations by the Adams Racing team in the fact that Adams was not injured.
However, despite that, she is back and ready with her Mustang ‘Stella’ to tackle the 3/8 mile oval in Innisfil, Ontario once again.
“I would like to get a win, but just continuing to gain experience with the car,” she said of her outlook heading into this season. She also noted that her goal for this season was to finish top 10 in points.
Adams got interested in racing when she was younger as her dad would take her to the races at Barrie Speedway when she was a kid. However, she didn’t get the chance to drive herself till now, later on in her life.
“Been a lifelong dream of mine to drive,” she noted.
On top of the racing on track, she is also raising awareness for mental house as her son Zackery committed suicide.
“Raising awareness with youth and adolescent is a big thing and trying to get help for them now so they don’t struggle and end their lives,” she said.
Throughout the season, she will carry New Path Youth and Family Services, Kids Help Phone and BC Wellness on her Mustang while taking the bully pledge.
On the second anniversary of Zackery’s death, August 17th, Adams has discussed with the track about having a night for Mental Health Awareness.
For her racing efforts this season, she would like to thank the following sponsors for their support: Canadian Pool Players Association, ProSigns.ca, The UPS Store – Collingwood, Sunflower Studios, TSS Top Shops, Robson Janitorial.
