There are several reasons why you should be watching the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour every week. Justin Bonsignore delivered another on Saturday, though.
You could say he is in the process of writing his own chapter in the series history book having scored his second win a row, with 16 victories in his last 34 starts now. Needless to say, the 2018 Champion is easily your early title favorite. However, he may have his hands full in the weeks to come.
While taking the easy route by dominating at Jennerstown, his victory on Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park came virtue of laying the bumper to Matt Hirschman in the final laps on a restart. It wasn’t just a little nudge, either, as it sent the No. 60 a full lane up the track.
The pair have reached each other plenty of times before, and Hirschman has shown his ability to be just as aggressive in similar situations. Given they’re known front runners in the modifieds, it probably won’t be the last time they meet. Though don’t be surprised if a favor is returned as Hirschman easily felt he deserved the victory after having dominated prior to the bump. You live by the sword, you should be prepared to die by it, too right?
Beyond the contact in the late stages, the series’ inaugural trip to the bullring was a success. There were battles for positions throughout the day, as drivers worked at getting the runs underneath each other entering the corners. The cream also rose to the top as last year’s Champion Doug Coby edged Hirschman at the line for second.
