Alex Palou Looking to Make IndyCar History in Toronto

By: Ashley McCubbin

TORONTO, Ontario — Detroit. Road America. Mid-Ohio. Each of the past three events on the NTT IndyCar Series have one thing in common – Alex Palou. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver was victorious in each of those races, leading a combined 132 laps.

It is actually remarkable the season he is putting together as since finishing eighth in the season opener at St. Petersburg, he has placed inside the top-five in the eight races since, including a victory in the Indianapolis Grand Prix. He will be looking to do what few have accomplished in IndyCar by winning his fourth consecutive event this weekend.

“It’s cool. It’s crazy to think about,” he told a group of reporters. “It shows how competitive this series is and has it been. I don’t think it’s impossible – it’s just another weekend. We have the same chances of winning as the other drivers so I feel confident that we can have a good showing.”

The task won’t be easy, though, as Palou dug himself a hole in qualifying, set to take the green flag in 15th. There is also a possibility of rain on Sunday just like in time trials, with the current forecast showing 75%.

“I never like it when it’s a street course,” he admitted. “It can always be a crazy race especially with the paint that is around the track and different patches and stuff – but it’s the same for everybody, so we’ll just try and be ready.”

Fortunately, Palou showed speed in his inaugural event on the streets of Toronto by placing sixth last season. He is also driving for a team that knows their way to victory lane, as Chip Ganassi Racing has the most victories of any organization in Ontario’s capital city with eight.

He enters the race weekend with 110 point lead with eight races including Toronto remaining in the season.
