Dale Earnhardt Jr. scheduled two NASCAR Xfinity Series events in 2023; this weekend he completes his short schedule in south Florida.
Every year, the 49-year-old enjoys making a return to the sport, in a one-off race each season Since 2018. He doubled it in 2023 to two races at Bristol Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Hellman’s Mayonnaise has sponsored Earnhardt Jr. for every NASCAR race he has run in since retirement, totaling six races. This weekend at Homestead-Miami, he will have new sponsorship on the No. 88 Camaro, Bass Pro Shops.
When Earnhardt Jr. decides to enter a race, he races for the team he owns, JR Motorsports. This is a rare occurrence that we will see a race team running five cars in one race, which is not allowed in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Earnhardt Jr’s most recent race was at Bristol just over a month ago. This was his first return to Bristol since running full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series in the 2017 season. He impressed many, as he led 47 laps before his car caught on fire in the closing stage. “Wooooo! Missed this sh*t boys!” Jr exclaimed over the radio. Many thought he would have won the race if his car didn’t catch fire.
On Saturday, he returns to Homestead-Miami where he ran a one-off race back in 2020. Since retirement, he has only competed at short tracks and two 1.5-mile tracks, the other being Darlington Raceway. In his first return to Florida, Earnhardt Jr ran inside the top ten for most of the event. The No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet finished in fifth.
Tune into USA Network this Saturday at 3:30 pm to watch Earnhart Jr make his return to Homestead-Miami.
