MARTINSVILLE, Virginia — The Craftsman Truck Series traveled to Martinsville, Virginia for the sixth race of the 2024 season. It was a one-day show with practice and qualifying earlier in the day resulting in Ty Majeski winning the pole.
The race began with dominance from Eckes and the No. 19 team as the crew swept the first two stages, leading the first 100 laps of the 200-lap event. The team elected to stay out for the first half and make their first pit stop of the night during the stage two break.
Eckes started stage three in the 19th position and quickly moved to the top ten navigating through a few cautions and found himself battling with Majeski for the lead during a restart with 28 laps remaining; Eckes prevailed.
There was no contest for Eckes as he managed to lead the final 27 laps and crossed the finish line in first. His teammate, Tyler Ankrum proved a strong day for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing as a team with a fifth-place finish.
“We had a great truck, we were not as good as the No. 19, that was a great truck that Christian and Charles put together. Honestly, that last restart killed us I felt like we could have run third or fourth there,” Ankrum said.
Ty Majeski, who finished second sounded pleased with his second-place finish, “It just didn’t go our way tonight, going back I don’t know that I would have done anything different, I think overall the No. 19 was a little bit better than us.”
There were ten cautions due to an accident throughout the 200-lap event with over 20 drivers involved. 81 laps in the race were run under the yellow flag, 119 green.
The Craftsman Truck Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway next Friday night for the seventh race of the 2024 season. Catch the race on FS1 at 8:30 pm EST.
