INTERVIEW & GALLERY: McLaren Builds Car Out of LEGO

By: Ashley McCubbin

For many kids and young adults, there’s a pure joy in taking a bunch of building blocks and constructing something out of those. It’s why LEGO has become a brand known worldwide for their unique toys everywhere.

If you ever imagined what one of those cars you built out of LEGO would look like in full scale, you do not need to wonder anymore. The manufacture has made that a reality, building a McLaren P1 to match it’s street counterpart solely out of LEGO – well, other than the drive train. Why? Because it actually works, as proven by F1 competitor Lando Norris taking the car for a drive around the track.

The LEGO built McLaren P1 makes it North American show debut as part of the Canadian International Auto Show, taking place from February 14 to February 23 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

NEWS FROM THE PITS was on-hand for the unveil on the day before the show officially opens to the public. We have video footage of the reveal, as well as an interview with Lubor Zelinka from LEGO Group discussing some of the specifics of the build and more.
