TORONTO, Ontario — The pieces are starting to come together, or that’s what it may feel like for Jacob Abel as he was able to score his first top-15 of the season with an 11th-place finish in the Farm to Finish 275 at Iowa Speedway.
“It was good to have finally have one go our way,” he told media on Friday. “We definitely got lucky with the strategy there but we put ourselves in that window to that make happen and then I had a pretty good car that we worked on throughout the whole weekend so we were able to get a fair amount of positions, as well. It’s a huge moral boost for the whole 51 crew. We still have a few opportunities here to go out there and get some good results.”
The 2025 campaign marks his rookie season in the NTT IndyCar Series with Dale Coyne Racing after placing eighth in the Indy Lights Championship three years ago.
“We’re improving every single weekend in all different categories,” he commented. “Last weekend was a really big step forward. With this series, it’s all about execution, all about making no mistakes and being perfect in everything you can. It’s just about keep trying to do that and the pace will come and just keep moving forward.”
Although he has yet to qualify inside the top-15 for any event this season, Abel has made the most of each weekend with completing each event except two.
Abel makes his first appearance on the streets of Toronto since competing in Indy Pro 2000 seven years ago, set to take the green flag from the tail of the field in 27th.
“Just with it being a raw street course, lots of bumps and all that so it makes it a driver’s track,” he explained. “But it’s also very important for the car to be good and have something your confident with, because if you’re not, being this close to the walls and so many bumps and all that, it’s difficult to do well.”
