After experiencing success in Formula 4, Christian Bogle is set to tackle the full Cooper Tires USF2000 Series Championship with Jay Howard Motorsports. Recently, the American shared his thoughts with POPULAR OPEN WHEEL.
POPULAR OPEN WHEEL: What are your thoughts going into the season?
CHRISTIAN BOGLE: This upcoming season, I’m really hoping to get some good experience behind the wheel. I’m really excited to get into the season, see where I stand with this series, and just overall excited to hang with the Jay Howard team and enjoy all of the racing events that USF is able to bring us to.
POW: Why did you make the decision to go to USF2000 in 2019?
BOGLE: I believe that USF2000 is one of the best stepping stones that you can have for looking towards a racing career because of the ladder that takes you from USF to Indy Pro 2000 to Indy Lights, all the way to IndyCar. So there’s a definite ladder there so that’s why I decided to go with USF for my racing series.
POW: What are your goals and expectations?
BOGLE: I’m hoping to do well during the season. I’m hoping to place every race and hopefully, I’d really like to see improvement throughout the year. My goal is to see improvement in my driving through the year, whether in position placement or percentage difference between good times and bad times.
POW: What track are you most looking forward to?
BOGLE: I’m most looking forward to St. Petersburg.
POW: How did you get started in racing?
BOGLE: I started with SCCA events – autocross, track nights, but my first official race series was competing in Formula 4 last year.
POW: What’s been your most memorable racing moment to date?
BOGLE: I would have to say Formula 4 at Circuit of the Americas; that was one of the Formula 1 supporting races. That was a pretty cool experience.
POW: Who is your racing hero?
BOGLE: I would have to say (Fernando) Alonso.
POW: What would it mean to you to make your way up the Road to Indy ladder and race in the IndyCar Series one day?
BOGLE: It would mean the world to me. To get the chance to drive those cars – not just for one but competitively and try to prove your skills at that level of series, that’d just be far beyond anything else really.
