DOVER, Del. — Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer enter Friday afternoon’s General Tire 125 at the top of the ARCA Menards Series East standings, separated by just one point. And they’ll take the green flag side-by-side on the front row.
Gibbs used a late run at the very end of the 1-hour qualifying session Friday to bump Mayer off the top of the board and nab the General Tire Pole Award. The 17-year-old North Carolina lapped the one-mile banked track in 23.709 seconds (151.841 mph) in the 21st and final lap he took in his No. 18 Monster/Horrible Herbst/ORCA Toyota.
