Wolfe “can’t think of a better place to go to take a shot at this championship than Phoenix.”

Looking across the Championship 4, there are a lot of strengths that can be discussed about each of the drivers. When it comes to Joey Logano, there is a lot of confidence heading into Phoenix Raceway.

For one, the event will be run in the lower downforce configuration, which has seen Team Penske have a lot of success with this season. This is due in heavily due to the thought process originally behind the Mustang body when it was debuted in 2018, prior to the rules being shifted for 2019 and then put back to what we are seeing this year.

“I think hats off to Ford,” Joey Logano’s crew chief Paul Wolfe said. “Congratulations on the manufacturers championship to those guys. Just goes to show that all the work that was put into designing this really paid off when we got to see the low downforce configuration.”

Though the success goes beyond that, as they also seem to have a knack for setting up cars for short track competition. Logano ran up front throughout the day at Martinsville Speedway, and was leading late at Bristol Motor Speedway in the spring prior to contact with Chase Elliott.

“I think history in general, we’ve been fairly strong on short tracks, kind of our approach and things we’ve done have worked well,” Wolfe commented. “All the Penske cars have been fast at all the short tracks. Brad (Keselowski) has been pretty dominant at a couple of those races.”

It seems shocking to see the confidence, considering he has the worst average finish of the Championship 4 there, but recent success points in his direction if you look at the most recent events. Logano was the victor at Phoenix in the spring after leading 60 laps, and paced 93 laps in the fall race last year en route to placing ninth.

Wolfe, himself, meanwhile was on the box when Keselowski scored a runner-up there in 2018, as well.

“We have a lot of confidence going to Phoenix,” Wolfe stated. “At this point in the season, I can’t think of a better place to go to take a shot at this championship than Phoenix.”
