It had been 20 races since Marc-Antione Camirand put his No. 22 machine in Victory Lane in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. But thanks to a late charge and pass on teammate Alex Tagliani, the St. Leonard d’Aston, Quebec native, he earned his second-ever series victory in the Clarington 200, one day after finishing runner-up at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The win marks Camirand’s third straight top-two finish at the Bowmanville, Ontario track and first victory in his 12th start. After coming home with a runner-up yesterday and in 2019. Sunday was finally his day, bringing the No. 22 machine its first-ever win on a road course.

The race-winning move came with five laps remaining in turn 5, as Camirand dove underneath Tagliani and cleared the No. 18 off corner exit. It was smooth sailing from there, as he wound up taking the checkered flag just under one full second over Tagliani, the 2018 CTMP winner.

After leading the most laps, Tagliani came home second for his fifth top-five of the season (third in a row at CTMP), with rookie Kyle Marcelli earning his best career finish of third, one day after finishing 22nd, 10 laps down.

Kevin Lacroix started on the pole and led the opening 14 laps before finishing fourth, a welcome result after a transmission issue hindered them on Saturday, Andrew Ranger came home in fifth after starting in the rear. The Rick Ware Racing driver, despite crossing the finish line inside the top 10, was scored 19th yesterday after ignoring multiple black flags at the conclusion of the race.

Gary Klutt, Matthew Scannell, Brett Taylor, Dexter Stacey and Alex Guenette completed the top 10. A winner Saturday at CTMP, L.P. Dumoulin didn’t have the same fortune, coming home 11th, his first result outside the top 10 this season.

Treyten Lapcevich, one day after finishing third and driving straight to Toronto to compete in his late model, finished 21st, 19 laps down after a driveshaft issue prematurely ended his day. Entering the 51-lap race fourth in the championship standings, 2011 CTMP winner D.J. Kennington finished 24th after pulling into the garage after the initial green flag flew.

With his runner-up result, Tagliani extends his championship points lead by eight points over Lacroix, who passed L.P. Dumoulin for second.

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series will take to Flamboro Speedway for the seventh and eighth races of the 2021 season on Sunday, September 12. The Motomaster Batteries 125 and QwickWick 125 will go green back-to-back at approximately 6 and 8 pm ET.
