TORONTO, Ontario — Parker Thompson was able to leave Toronto with a smile on his face, as the streets of Toronto once again treated the Canadian well.
“To kick off the weekend with three straight podiums, it’s not easy to keep switching back and forth between these two different cars,” he told POPULAR OPEN WHEEL. “So I don’t think you could ask for more right now. All the cars have four wheels on them to date.”
Thompson had a busy weekend, competing in the Indy Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires, and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge events – a pair of races both series. Across those four events, he was able to score three podiums and a fifth.
He almost was able to reach victory lane, posing a challenge to Kyle Kirkwood in the Indy Pro 2000 event. Ultimately, though, he crossed the finish line with a runner-up.
“It’s so tight,” he commented. “I mean, we were setting best laps back and forth. I don’t think it was anyone thing that we were missing. We started the weekend a little bit behind on the back foot and were able to compete for a race win today.
“So, it’s Tom Knapp and I’s second weekend working together. So if we’re already this close to the front, I think we’re going to be a force to be wrecking with as the year goes on. It’s only the second race of the second half of the season; that’s how we have to look at it.”
Thompson now heads into the second half of 2019 sitting 30 points behind Rasmus Lindh in second.
