Team Penske Crew Member Sustained “Lower Left Leg Injury” in Pit Road Incident

Zach Price will certainly have a story to tell in the years to come after his experience on pit road during the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Coming onto pit road under the competition caution at Lap 15, the back half of the field would get log-jammed together, resulting in contact between the cars, with competitors going around on pit road. The incident would result in Brennan Poole hitting one of Ryan Blaney’s crew members, while sending one of his tires flying in the process.

Price, the rear tire changer, was transported to a local hospital, before returning home with the team to North Carolina for further evaluation.

Early on Tuesday afternoon, Team Penske offered an update on Price, as well as naming his replacement for this weekend at Kentucky Speedway.

“Zach Price continues to recover at home from a lower left leg injury sustained following Sunday’s pit road incident at Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” the statement read. “Curtis Thompson will serve as rear tire changer for the No. 12 Advance Auto Parts Ford Mustang at Kentucky.”

Blaney sustained right-side damage in the incident and had worked his way back into the top-10, before encountering problems in the second half en route to finishing 32nd.
