L.P. Dumoulin Riding Wave of Consistency to Circuit ICAR

By: Ashley McCubbin

MARKHAM, Ontario —- After working his way into the top-five at the beginning of the Markham 125, L.P. Dumoulin made a late-race charge to challenge for the lead, crossing the finish line in third.

“It was an amazing run for the No. 47 WeatherTech, Bellemare, Omnifab Dodge,” Dumoulin told News From The Pits.“We gave the 96 (Marc-Antoine Camirand) a good run, as he was under pressure all race long. He was faster than me in a couple places, and I was faster than him in other places. So I really wanted to win that race for my sponsors, my fans, my partners, but you know what it is. At the end, we had a good fight there with Ranger and fortunately, with a really tight corner, we tucked it in there. I think I lost a couple of spots, but it is part of the game.”

It marks the eighth straight top-10 finish for Dumoulin, and his fifth top-five of the season. The only thing missing from this year for him, though, has been capturing a checkered flag.

“It’s been good,” Dumoulin said of his season. “We’re still looking for that first win in a while there. It’s been too long since we’ve won a race, so we want to do well with our No. 47 WeatherTech, Bellemare, Omnifab Dodge this weekend. We’re good, we’ve got a couple podiums and many top fives, and we’re running up front – still missing a little bit, but we’re working at it.”

Dumoulin knows if he wants to score his first win since Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in 2021, it is going to take beating Camirand.

“I think it’s mostly do-able on the road course,” he commented. “But on the oval, there’s something with that 96 up front that we can’t beat yet. I mean, I know he knows his car; he’s been running the same stuff for a while, so probably he’s got it finetuned better than us and some other guys here in the series. But we’re trying to find that speed, and I know everybody else is trying, too. So we’ll see how it goes. I mean, we think we found some stuff since the West Coast so hopefully we can put that down for Delaware (Speedway).”
