MARKHAM, Ontario — Kevin Lacroix may be ranked third in the NASCAR Canada standings right now, but it is not the success that has stood out thus far for him in 2026. Instead, it’s been the missed opportunities.
“It’s been very bad,” Lacroix told News From The Pits of his season prior to the Markham 125. “Like last race (at Trois-Rivieres), leading until it breaks and my first race of the year at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park), never did one lap – breaking before the race even started. We had other issues with some other races that we did finish the race, but not very clean, so it’s frustrating. It’s been three years in a row that it’s been difficult like this so it’s a little bit frustrating.”
Unfortunately, the frustrations continued in the Markham 125 as Lacroix made contact with the wall while running inside the top-five late in the event, forcing him to the pits with five laps to go. He was credited with an 18th-place finish.
The frustration has not been for lack of effort, though, as the speed has been there this season. Lacroix was able to pick up a victory at Edmonton International Raceway and has five top-fives and eight top-10’s through the 11 events this season.
“There’s two guys full-time, sometimes three just for my car full-time,” he commented. “There is a lot of work and they work really hard on trying to find the parts that are getting a little bit old, changing the parts before they even break, and they still work.”
Lacroix will hope to turn his fortunes back around as the series’ next event is set for Circuit ICAR at the end of the month.
“Well, even with the season I’ve had, but at least what I prefer – here at Markham and ICAR – are nice road courses,” he shared. “That’s what I like to do – road courses. I just kind of survive on ovals and do it, but I think the most fun races are still to come. So that’s what kind of keeps me a little bit happy about it.”
